Star Championships 2010

The Copthorne Hotel and surrounding countryside looked beautiful under its blanket of snow on Wednesday and though it was obvious that the weather would hamper proceedings somewhat, the event proved once again to be a very successful occasion.
There was a strong field of competitors battling it out for the prizes on offer, a hugely experienced panel of adjudicators to rival any other major event in the world and music provided by the Empress Orchestra with a stunning sound system giving the dancers and audience the chance to hear us in near studio quality. Richard Miller was spinning the discs.
Once again the event was well thought out and run by the BDF (Ballroom Dancers’ Federation) and I would like to gratefully thank the many people whose wonderful comments about the music we perform means so very much to all of us and also the BDF for inviting us to play for the second year running. We have been asked to perform for the event again in 2011, so will keep you posted.

Dance Aficionados worldwide will know that the BDF Star Ball is rich and opulent in its history. From the years early after the war and throughout the ages this most prestigious of events, steeped in tradition of excellence has sated the appetite of repeated generations of those who savour the very best of dance.
The BDF Star Ball then, 2010 style was set to continue to elevate the level of organization, upping the ante by employing the services of the Empress Orchestra under the stewardship of Ashley Frohlich and what a superb decision this proved to be.
Transplanted from the beautiful and world famous Empress Ballroom to the South, and indeed amidst blizzard conditions and a total white-out of Southern England, one could have forgiven a slight drop in standards, a lowering of the benchmark, to be human afterall in such extreme circumstances.
Not at all!
The music from the Orchestra was absolutely sublime. Under the guidance of President Kenny Welsh, MC’s David Sycamore and Graham Oswick, the music thrilled us incessantly joining with the blood dancing through our veins and warmed the hearts of the bravehearts who made it to the venue despite the extreme challenges of nature.
