Justin Lee Collins attempts to transform himself into a Ballroom Dancer. Its no mean task for a man who confesses he’s got the equivalent of two left feet and a poor understanding of coordination. Justin will be whipped into shape by Strictly Come Dancing teacher Karen Hardy to prepare him for his professional dance partner. He will be up against world-class professionals in the San Francisco Dance Championships, but he still hopes to snatch a title.

The game comedian descends on the dance floor for the mission he’s been looking forward to most, the opportunity to become a ballroom dancer: “If you were to ask my Mum what my favourite childhood programme was, it would be Come Dancing. I fought for the ballroom dancing mission and am so glad I did.” Enthusiastic as ever, JLC has warmed up his hips and is out to prove he can be as debonair as Fred Astaire. Will he do the discipline proud or showcase as much balance and control as Bambi on ice?

When I met Justin and the production team back in November 2008 he was tremendously excited about the prospect of trying his hand at “Ballroom Dancing”. ‘Come Dancing’ was his favourite programme on the TV when he was growing up and he was thrilled at the thought of having the opportunity to try his hand at the sport.

I asked him what he hoped to achieve during the Pro-Am competition in the States, and he said; “I want to win!”

When I asked if he’d danced before, he said he’d had a brief try many years ago, but to a very limited “social” standard.

    I wished him luck.

JLC was asked several questions about the series in an interview for “SkyMag” – which was his favourite episode, which he found hardest to do etc., etc. This was his reply to the question: “What were you less keen on doing?”

“Ballroom dancing, definitely. I don’t think I’ll be doing that again! Come Dancing was my favourite show when I was little, but all the love, the passion and the joy seems to go out of it when you do it. It’s very competitive and technical – and all about winning.”

I’ve seen about 10 – 15 minutes of the programme which was sent through to me a couple of months ago. The part I viewed was before he’d tried his hand at dancing and while he was still very upbeat. I’m keen to see how the rest of the episode unravels.
